Y Byngwyn Newydd, Pwll, SA15 4DY‎

July 2010 I visited Y Bryngwyn Newydd in Pwll.

Y Bryngwyn Newydd is a Gastropub turned Steak house between Llanelli and Burry Port along the A484.  The premises has a bar area in the front of the building, which you walk through to reach the restaurant area at the rear.  Parking can be a problem as there is only a small car park behind the pub and there is limited on street parking due to a near by Zebra crossing.

The staff were all polite and well presented.  There is no greeter at the door however the bar person will show you to the table.

The menu centres largely around steak.  There were 2 different rump steaks available as well as a sirloin, T bone and 2 different mixed grills.  The sirloin, T bone and the larger mixed grill, called the Bryngwyn Bonanza, are called big plate meal, the big plate meals are (Ronseal moment) served on a big plate and come with more chips and onion rings.  The steaks are reasonably priced from around £8 for the smaller rump steak to £16 for the Bonanza.

The food was served quickly, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium-well, the chips were good thick cut but clearly pre-prepared and the side salad had a nice balsamic dressing.

If you visit this Gastropub and want to sit in the restaurant it is advisable to book as it fills quite quickly, however, the bar area usually has room for small parties (up to 4 people).

So to summarize

  • Central location
  • Well presented
  • Parking can be difficult
  • Polite Staff
  • Reasonable price but not exactly a cheap meal
  • Good quality, well cooked steak
  • Nice side salad
  • Advisable to book
I would visit again but probably reserved for special occasions as once you add the cost of extras, drinks you could see the cost rise to £40 for 2 people.

Overall rating 75% due to costs
